Are you bound for a rough passage,
Your ship old…seen better days;
And, as you board it, do you see,
It bobs back and forth, in strange ways?
No longer new and proud…she stands,
Life’s battles have worn her down;
Her paint is chipping off,
“Of the past…of the past”…does resound.
No longer strong…powerful,
Much hardship she has borne;
Still, another journey she must make,
Her crew and cargo…forlorn.
Life itself is a passage,
A journey all must take;
Some have a rougher crossing,
By themselves…their Saviour, they forsake.
But, we do have a choice,
Put Jesus at the helm;
The rough seas toss and turn us…still,
But, our ship shall not be overwhelmed.
The older the ship becomes,
More battered she appears;
But, the seasons of life have proved her,
As close to Him…she draws near.
In the midst of the storm…He will steer us,
Not away…but straight…right through;
The ship shall not be lost,
Our Captain…tried and true.
He will help us ride-out the storm,
Not running in fear;
He will have us stand…by faith,
As close to Him…we draw near.
He’s never lost a single one,
His Father gave to Him;
Overcome the very world,
He made atonement for its sin.
Hold onto our Saviour…Captain,
The Saver of our soul;
We’ll go through all of life’s battles,
Allow Jesus to raise the banderole.
.................(long, narrow ship’s flag)
Watch, as the wind hits it,
Like a ribbon…it unfurls;
His banner over us is Love, (Song of Solomon 2:4)
Love conquers all the battles of this world.
Let Him calm the storms in your life,
Bring your ship safely to its harbor;
Don’t wrest the helm from His loving arms,
He’s our Lord, our Captain…our Saviour.
