A LITTLE CHILD

Mat. 18:1 "At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

Except you come as…
Come as a little child;
You cannot even see the kingdom,
Of this…we've all been told.

To put aside sophistication,
Our years of higher learning;
To count as naught…the things we're taught,
And, on His Word…only leaning.

'Tis not an easy thing to do,
To say "none of me…all of You";
Turn our backs on all we've known,
Oh, what is false…and what is true?

Our heads crammed full of higher learning,
Diplomas and our accolades;
To the world…sheer foolishness,
Our "good name"…to degrade.

Still…except you come as…
Come as a little child;
If, the kingdom you would see,
Seems kind of preposterous and wild.

What is a child like…his attributes,
He's humble, trusting, loving;
He believes what he is told,
From the truth…he's not running.

He's gentle…kind…helpful,
And, never self-seeking;
With loving arms…he reaches out,
The whole world, he is loving.

We're drawn to the one he is,
So soft, so warm and cuddly;
Pretention…never his intent,
To the whole world…he is friendly.

When do we lose this little child,
The one we have…inside;
When do we cover-up…this little child,
From the world, we try to hide?

Now, isn't it a shame,
We've forgotten how to laugh;
Spontaneous…become so remote,
Have we really chosen the better half?

To see the world through a child's eyes,
Where everything is new…exciting;
Each day holds so many promises,
Excitement…through his eyes…is showing.

Wouldn't we…the kingdom see,
If all we knew was love;
And, every good and perfect gift,
Came from our heavenly Father…above?

We try to complicate,
The things that are so simple;
We put on a somber face,
Not one that is jovial.

Let's learn our lessons,
And learn them well;
As a child…we choose to be,
In God's kingdom to live…forever dwell.

His Word will open up to us,
His promises…we'll believe;
We'll lean on our LORD at all times,
From Him…we'll not retreat.

Walk with Him…every day,
Uncomplicated by the world;
With child-like faith…all things possible,
His Word…to us…unfurled.

His kingdom come…His will be done,
Nothing complicated…there;
As a little child…eyes opened wide,
We'll see His kingdom…everywhere!
