************
When is the last time you heard it,
Our LORD’s still, small voice?
Used to be…we longed for it,
Because it made our hearts rejoice.
But, now we’ve become complacent,
Perhaps…taking Him for granted;
We wonder why things go amiss,
And, then…sometimes we blame Him.
We’ve learned that He is always near,
So, we dash on…ahead;
Not really knowing for sure,
If or what…He’s said.
When we become bogged-down,
Or reached the end of our rope;
Then, we fall upon our knees,
We pray…this is how we cope.
Oh, we have our long lists,
Our requests…to our LORD;
We’ll pray…we’ll fast,
Do anything…to get His reward.
When we are babes…newborns in Christ,
Our LORD will come running;
Cater to all our needs…our wants,
But, our immaturity is clearly showing.
And, as we grow in Him,
Our relationship must change;
Babes…we cannot forever be,
Why do we think this strange?
Yes, we shall always need Him,
And, yes…He will always be there;
We’re to pray without ceasing, (1Thes.5:17)
Our communication will always be prayer.
Now that we are older,
We walk and talk with Him;
Ah, sweet fellowship have we,
Never, let that relationship grow dim.
Keep the lines of communication open,
And, it cannot be one-sided;
We need to learn to listen,
Now…our sweet fellowship has widened.
We’ll walk with Him…talk with Him,
And, what’s more…we’ll stop;
We'll be so very still,
That we could hear a pin…drop.
Then, come the Words we long to hear,
Most gentle, kind…most loving;
Our LORD has waited so very long,
His long-suffering…showing.
At last…we really want to hear,
At last…we’re reachable;
No longer a teenager in Christ,
Now, we are truly teachable.
A walk close to Him…we need,
To hear His still, small voice;
Sometimes He speaks in a whisper,
A closer walk…our only choice.
Draw very close to our LORD,
Walk side-by-side with Him…each day;
Listen to each Word He speaks,
Listen to everything He says.
Let’s flex our spiritual muscles,
Let’s grow up…become real;
Let’s be very quiet…and,
LISTEN…LISten…listen!
