Romans 8:12 “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

Are you out of control,
Totally lacking in discipline?
Not really some big vice,
Perhaps not even some small sin.

Ask yourself these questions,
And, you will surely see;
If your life is as designed,
All that it should be.

Do you sleep deep and peaceful,
Do you wake up feeling refreshed?
Or do you toss and turn all night,
Even your dreams leave you distressed?

My goodness…stop and think,
There must be some clue;
As to just what the cause is,
Usually something wrong that we do.

How about a stressful movie,
Even games on our computer;
What is the vice of your choice,
Of what have we been a sightseer?

What we’ve put into our bodies,
Is exactly what comes back out;
What we sow is what we reap,
And, that’s without a doubt.

Perhaps this is not your problem,
Like a baby…you do sleep;
Your mind at rest…total peace,
And, your sleep…so very deep.

How about road-rage,
Do you see it all around you?
Has it happened in your own car,
As your anger grew and grew?

Was it “they” who drove so foolishly,
And, all your “buttons” they did push?
Did “they” cause you to speed-up,
Through that intersection…rush?

Perhaps, you’re a good driver,
Ask everyone you know;
Still, nobody will ride with you,
They’d rather stay at home…than go.

Driving too slow isn’t safe…either,
Accidents…we can cause;
Those around us grow impatient,
Now think about it…pause.

How about exercise,
Our body cries out for more;
But, we deny it satisfaction,
Why…exercise, it makes us sore!

So, we sit here day after day,
“Couch potatoes” are in style;
Our body just wastes away,
While we remain immobile.

Let’s quit the stalling,
For we know full-well;
The biggest problem in our lives,
Is none of the above!

Dare I say the word,
Would it be more than we can bear?
I’ll give you a tiny clue…now,
It adds to what we wear!

The food that we ingest,
It adds inches to our girth;
It’s so pleasant going down,
In excess…our body it hurts!

Alot of our infirmities…our sickness,
Begins with what we eat;
Not usually a healthy combination,
We pack ourselves with every…treat!

“Comfort food” is to our liking,
It soothes everything that ails us;
Or so…it has been thought,
So…why all the fuss?

As we see the pounds go on,
And, the inches piling up;
This should be a clue to us,
Could it be because of how we sup?

Blood pressure soars,
Our blood sugar…too;
We’re lethargic…lay around,
Could it be what we do…or don’t do?

Discipline…Oh, hate the word,
But, this life’s out of control;
Do we want a healthy and long life,
Lack of discipline will take its toll.

Our choice to make,
And…it’s not easy;
“Creature comforts” or discipline,
Whichever one we choose…’tis costly.

I know that I’ve tried both,
And, a great many times;
Nothing seems to work,
But, that’s the past…foretime.

There’s something I’d like to try,
I have everything to gain…and naught to lose;
I’m asking God’s Holy Spirit for help,
Modifying the deeds of this body…is what I choose.

So, come Holy Spirit,
Help me…I pray;
I want discipline in my life,
Please, let it be so…today.

I’ll look for Your guidance,
Can’t be done on my own;
So tired of trying and failing,
Now, I won’t try it alone.

A “spirit of gluttony”,
Not pleasant to see;
By Your Spirit…LORD,
Help me to be free.

I’ll lean on You…daily,
Trust in Your Word;
Together…mission possible,
All by Your power…LORD!
