************
Do you have depression,
Because of things in the PAST;
Have they come back to haunt you,
It seems like the die is cast?
Depression sets in…as ‘round and ‘round you go,
You’re on a treadmill that goes nowhere;
Life is ‘total’ depression,
Really more than you can bear.
Or perhaps you wrestle with anxiety,
Your FUTURE so unsure;
It’s like walking on eggshells all the time,
Nothing you can count on…all is insecure.
Anxiety is no fun at all,
It takes the joy out of life;
Like a roller coaster with its ups and downs,
It’s continual 'fight or flight’.
Do I sound like I’ve had experience,
Wrestling with the PAST and FUTURE;
Well, let me tell you…my friend,
I thought that I was the author!
Been there and done that,
And, a lot I have learned;
Lend me your ear for a little while,
I’ll tell you how my life - around was turned.
You see…we can’t change the PAST,
It is gone forevermore;
All we can do is learn from it,
And, repeat it no more.
Although we can work toward the FUTURE,
Outside of that…it’s not in our control;
As a Christian…we are blessed,
Knowing our FUTURE…Father does hold.
There’s a lesson to be learned,
It’s in the Old Testament…found;
When the Israelites wandered in the desert,
For forty years…they went ‘round and round’.
They could have shortened their journey,
It should have taken only two weeks;
It took much longer because of their lack of faith,
And, not listening to what God did speak.
When they longed for the things in Egypt,
God gave them manna fresh…every day;
They weren’t to store it up ahead,
For it would spoil that way.
And, today God does the very same,
For those who have ears to hear;
He’s provided us with a gift,
‘Tis call the PRESENT…live each day without fear.
No longer with our eyes on the PAST,
For we can’t go forward that way;
Nor our eyes to the FUTURE,
All, we have is…today.
So, make the most of God’s gift to us,
His precious gift…the PRESENT;
God will receive all the glory,
And our lives will be…radiant!
