Twisting Scripture…God forbid,
But, isn’t it being done each day?
A little here…a little there,
Make it say…what we want to say.
We need the patience of Job,
As, back and forth we do go;
Old Testament…New Testament,
Then, back again…more confused we grow.
Out of context…that’s for sure,
A structure built like this will collapse.
Those who take the simple route,
Draw their own road map;
Zigging and zagging…here and there,
Leading themselves and others into a trap.
For Scripture is to be,
“Line upon line”…as decreed;
No shortcuts here…allowed,
As the truth…is pursued.
Why settle for something less,
Why take all those bunny-trails;
Running here and there…everywhere,
Up the hills and down the vales?
God’s not the author of confusion,
He says exactly what He means;
But, most of the time we twist it around,
To fit all our wants and needs.
Oh, foolish…foolish people,
When will we ever learn;
We make things so very hard for ourselves,
As down each bunny-trail…we turn.
Like the Israelites of old,
In the desert…wandering for years;
A desert that they could have crossed in days,
Were it not for unbelief and fears.
Do you suppose our own unbelief,
Prolongs our journey to the Promised Land?
Our fears keep us back,
From all that Father has planned.
Of course…we know it’s true,
Still, we’d rather do it all ourselves;
Father’s ways can’t be that simple,
So, we twist His Words…and stretch it out.
We’ll wander in that desert,
Complain about the water and the food;
He’ll bless us…if we cry out,
But, it’s our lot in life…we’ll conclude.
It’s a shame we don’t take Him at His Word,
With childlike faith…believing,
There’s simplicity IN Christ;
All bunny-trails and road maps…we’re erasing!
